課程概述

This course will train students to learn how to write an academic journal research paper. The course will consist of an introduction to academic English and to the framework of each part of an academic paper. Students will learn how to make an effective oral presentation of their research. 

課程目標
Course Intended Learning Outcome (CILO): By the end of the course, students should be able to …
CILO 1: critically evaluate and analyze a variety of texts for academic purposes.
CILO 2: identify features of academic writing and apply their knowledge of academic writing to organize their ideas into a logical and coherent text.
CILO 3: recognize the moves and steps in constructing research papers.
CILO 4: develop proof-reading and self-editing skills.
CILO 5: make effective written and oral presentations of one’s own work.
 
課程要求
1. Students are required to attend all classes. No more than three excused absences are permitted.
2. Active participation in class discussions is required.
3. Writing assignments are carefully scheduled as stages toward the fulfillment of the course’s objectives. Late assignments will not be accepted.

Assignment  
45% 
Writing Assignments (30%): One paragraph (~300 words) and two essays (500~600 words each) will be assigned. These assignments will be related to academic writing skills and structures, such as summary, critique, data commentary and SPSE. Paper Analysis (15%): Students will do moves & steps analyses of research papers in their discipline and compare their findings with peers.
